Sue Hershey is showcasing two of her images at the photography invitational at Carolina Gallery in Spartanburg, South Carolina. There was a wonderful artist reception on July 15 with wall-to-wall folks checking out the many terrific entries. Interesting that there was mostly photography under glass and there was an impressive array!  For the past few years most of the works sold at Bluewood have been the popular photography stretched on canvas. We enjoyed the reception – the exhibit continues through August 4th. Here’s Sue (right) with Carolina Gallery owner Shannon Emory (left) viewing one of Sue’s images.

The Asheville Region of CNPA hosted a photography weekend June 10-14. The seminar had over 100 members in attendance and included field trips to Cataloochee in the Great Smokies National Park, sites on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the waterfalls of Transylvania County. Over 50 entrants submitted images in a contest at the conclusion of the event. Sue Hershey, co-owner of Bluewood Gallery and a participating photographer enjoyed judging the contest along with Tom Nebbia of Mills River, retired staff photographer of National Geographic; and George Humphries of Bernardsville, photographer and author of many wonderful photography books on North Carolina. Sue says she enjoyed the judging and the contest “immensely”!

Yes, Bluewood Gallery begins its 5th year this month! Generally the retail gallery is closed in January to allow some time for re-vamping and gearing up for the busier seasons. This week we’re experiencing our third winter storm of the season and it’s only early February! The mountains here in Western North Carolina are beautiful in the snow and ice and the photographers rush out (conditions permitting!) to get the great shots. These areas don’t get much snow every year.  Here are a few from this week’s storm from Bruce Siulinski.Â

The image below is a night shot that uses painting by light. It’s a fun and creative way to shoot when you can’t even get out of your driveway. All that’s missing is a hearty foursome at the table!
