Susan Stanton
Susan Stanton of Horse Shoe, NC has been involved in photography since she first discovered its magic in high school where she won various contests and placed highly in the National Scholastic Art Awards Program. Although given a full scholarship to a nationally recognized photography school in Fort Lauderdale, Susan chose to pursue a career in business. After being away from photography for nearly 15 years, in 2000 she was given a Nikon camera by her husband after he stumbled across her old portfolio. She hasn’t put it down since. Although Susan travels extensively and captures a variety of subjects, she specializes in the photography of the Southern Appalachians. Her work has been displayed at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC and Oak Hill in Waynesville, NC and has been published in many art and literary magazines including: Our State, The Laurel of Asheville, Carolina Home & Garden, Carolina Arts, Rapid River, Bold Life and ArtSync Magazines to name a few. Susan is a resident photographer of Bluewood Gallery, Brevard, NC and shows in many other galleries in WNC. She is a member of the Carolina Nature Photographer’s Association, sits on f/32 Photography Group of Asheville’s steering committee as treasurer and head of membership, and is a founding member of the Southern Appalachian Photographer’s Guild. “As a photographer, I celebrate the beauty of nature and life through my lens. I discover beauty in intimate scenes, find richness in the mundane, and rejoice at the wonder of grand landscapes. Ordinary things become extraordinary through creative lighting and unexpected angles.
