Steve Owen
Steve is a native of Brevard and grew up enjoying the forest and streams of our area. He actually met his wife while camping in Pisgah National Forest. “Up until about 3 years ago, my photography was limited to photographing properties that I had for sale in my real estate business. Then I purchased my first digital camera—a Nikon Coolpix 5700 and Photoshop software. I was soon hooked. I now shoot with a Canon 5D and am constantly drooling over the new “toys” in the BH Photo catalog.” During the past 3 years, Steve has taken numerous photography classes and participated in several photo critique groups. He is a member of the Photographic Society of America and the Land of Waterfalls Camera Club. His photos have been featured in the PSA Journal and on numerous websites. “My primary interest has been in capturing the beauty of nature—streams, waterfalls, seascapes, etc. While the majority of my works are from Western North Carolina, I love to travel and always drag my camera, tripod, laptop, etc. with me–much to my wife’s chagrin. I especially love Glacier National Park and the Canadian Rockies, but there is beauty surrounding us wherever we are.” “Through photography, I am learning to do more than casually enjoy the scenery surrounding me, but to stop and take in the essence of that moment—the feeling it creates, the emotions it inspires, and then try to capture that in such a way as to preserve that special moment. If when I view one of my photos, I am transported to that spot—not just in my mind’s eye, but I also feel the emotion of the moment, then to me it is a good photo. If others can feel it as well…then you have something!” “A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, thereby, a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety.” ~Ansel Adams
